Candidate for Planning & Zoning Commission | 2025

My name is Geoff Cook and I’ve lived in Killingworth with my family for almost 30 years. My first career was in IT at Siemens and then Cisco Systems. My second career focused on my lifelong love of working with wood. I launched and ran a general contracting business for close to 20 years before retiring during the pandemic.
I first began my Planning and Zoning career in Killingworth in 2011 when I was elected as an Alternate. In 2012 I became a member of P & Z when another member retired. I successfully ran for the position three more election cycles and am now running for my fourth full term.
My family and I love this town. I’ve worked on P&Z and other boards and commissions because I feel it’s extremely important to contribute my time, skills and expertise where I can, especially in a smaller town like Killingworth where virtually all boards and commissions are staffed by volunteers.
I have a strong commitment to working with the rest of the Planning and Zoning Commission along with our townspeople, to ensure any changes made or approvals issued are in keeping with the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), which reflects the desires of our residents, as well as trying to ensure a balance of existing and new development. Balancing new residential development with the existing rural characteristics we all enjoy requires careful review of all projects and developments and taking all aspects into consideration before rendering decisions.
Another top issue for me is that of affordable housing. It is also important to the Commission and the townspeople who engage with us that we continue to work on initiatives related to affordable housing solutions for our elderly and for those just starting out. We want both groups to find options which allow them to continue to live in town.
