Jennifer Liptak

Candidate for Fire Commissioner | 2021

Jennifer400

My name is Jennifer L. Liptak and I am a candidate for the Killingworth Board of Fire Commissioners.

I moved to Killingworth in 2012 and although I wasn’t born in Killingworth, my daughters and I call Killingworth our home. We love our neighbors, the overall sense of community no matter where you are in town, and the commitment we’ve witnessed by our volunteer Fire Company and town representatives.

I was appointed to the Killingworth Board of Fire Commissioners (BOFC) in 2018.  I am proud to say that I was reelected the following year, extending my service in this role to three years.

Since that time, I have worked with both the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company (KVFC), the Board of Selectman(BOS) and Board of Finance (BOF) on many projects to promote the safety of the residents of Killingworth and improve working efficiencies for the members of the KVFC.

I have two daughters, Sam and Jhenna. Sam is a recent graduate of American University (AU) in Washington, DC, with a Bachelors in Journalism and Environmental Science.  She lives in Brighton, MA where she is attending Lesley University for a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  Jhenna is a Junior at AU, living in Washington, DC, studying Communications and Cinema Studies.

I am a Veteran of the US Navy, serving on active duty as a Hospital Corpsman with both the Navy and Marines.  I am a graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Phoenix, with a Master’s Degree in Management and Public Administration. I have worked for Pfizer, Inc. for twenty years.

I am now up for reelection to the Board of Fire Commissioners. In this role, I will continue to work to ensure the safety of the residents of Killingworth and the members of our volunteer Fire Company is always first.

It would be a privilege to continue to serve on the Killingworth Board of Fire Commissioners.

Candidate Q&A

Tell us a little about yourself.

I have been a resident of Killingworth since 2011. I am a US Navy Veteran having served as a Hospital Corpsman on active duty for six years.  I have 2 daughters, one attending American University in Washington, DC – studying Communications and Cinema Studies and the other attending Lesley University in Cambridge, MA for her Masters in Early Childhood Education.

I am originally from a small town in PA, but moved to CT in 2000 for a job and never left!

Why are you running for the position?

I am running for reelection as Fire Commissioner because I love working to make things better for our Community and the members of the KVFC.   I do not have a fire service background, which has provided great balance to the Board of Fire Commissioners. I tend to bring a different perspective to the Board that helps when presenting issues and projects to the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance.

What do you see as the important issues facing your town and how would you address them in your role?

Unfortunately, the most important issue facing our town right now, in my opinion, is COVID-19 and this isn’t something that I can address directly through my role as a Fire Commissioner. I can, however, work with the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company to ensure that the KVFC has what’s necessary to continue the superior protection of our town in the safest and most efficient way.

What are the key things you love about this town and its people?

I love that no matter where you go in town you see someone you know. Nearly everyone says hello, neighbors look out for each other and help if you need it – even if they are not asked.

Additional thoughts to leave voters with?

I would really appreciate your vote and will commit to performing my role as a Fire Commissioner with the Town’s interest first – not political, not personal, but for the greater good and safety of Killingworth.
