The Regional School District 17 Board of Education has scheduled a referendum for September 24, 2026, seeking voter approval for a comprehensive “Renovate-as-New” building project for Haddam-Killingworth High School (HKHS). The plan addresses aging infrastructure, improves safety and accessibility, and modernizes learning spaces at HKHS.
The question is:
Shall Regional School District No. 17, comprised of the Towns of Haddam and Killingworth, appropriate $151,900,000 for renovations and improvements to Haddam-Killingworth High School and authorize the issuance of bonds or notes of the District in an amount not to exceed $77,200,000 to finance the appropriation, or so much as may be necessary after deducting grants to be received for the project?”
Unlike annual school budget referendums, there is only one chance to pass this plan in order to take advantage of prioritized state funding and a space waiver, which allows HKHS to keep its recently renovated pool, field house, auditorium and tech ed facilities.
