Charles Martens

Candidate for Zoning Board of Appeals | 2019

My name is Charles Martens. As a three-term incumbent, I am seeking re-election to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

My wife Carol and I moved into our house on Chestnut Hill  Road in 1964. Our two daughters, Jenifer and Christina, went to KES and graduated from HKHS. I am a retired teacher, having  received my bachelors from the University of Connecticut and completed my graduate work at Southern Connecticut State University.

I have held an elected office for 31 years and am a former member of the KDTC. The majority of my civic activities involve my membership in the Lions Club, participating in such events as the Easter Egg Hunt, Kids Night Out and the annual Seniors Dinner. I have been a member of the Lions Club for over 20 years, serving two terms as president and have recently retired from the Lions Club.

Other town activities include serving on the Town Picnic Committee, being appointed and serving on the Inlands Wetlands and Watercourses Commission, the Second Charter Revisions Commission, the Killingworth Housing Partnership, and the Open Space Sub-Committee.

My 20 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, 15 as Chairman, have been very beneficial to me as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. This experience has served me well and I feel it makes me a well qualified candidate.
